Surah Muhammad —

ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَضَلَّ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ﴿١﴾

AS FOR THOSE who are bent on denying the truth and on barring [others] from the path of God - all their [good] deeds will He let go to waste;'

സത്യത്തെ നിഷേധിക്കുകയും, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മാർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നിന്ന് (മറ്റുള്ളവരെ) തടയുകയും ചെയ്തവർ ആരാണോ - അവരുടെ (നല്ല) കർമ്മങ്ങളെല്ലാം അവൻ പാഴാക്കിക്കളയുന്നതാണ്.

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَا نُزِّلَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍۢ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۙ كَفَّرَ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَأَصْلَحَ بَالَهُمْ﴿٢﴾

whereas those who have attained to faith and do righteous deeds, and have come to believe in what has been bestowed from on high on Muhammad - for it is the truth from their Sustainer - [shall attain to God's grace:] He will efface their [past] bad deeds, and will set their hearts at rest.

എന്നാൽ വിശ്വസിക്കുകയും സൽക്കർമ്മങ്ങൾ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുകയും, മുഹമ്മദ് നബിയുടെ മേൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടതിൽ — അത് അവരുടെ രക്ഷിതാവിങ്കൽ നിന്നുള്ള സത്യമാകുന്നു — വിശ്വസിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തവരാരോ, അവരുടെ തിന്മകളെ അവരിൽ നിന്ന് അവൻ മായ്ച്ചുകളയുകയും അവരുടെ അവസ്ഥ അവൻ നന്നാക്കിത്തീർക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ്.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْبَٰطِلَ وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمْثَٰلَهُمْ﴿٣﴾

This, because they who are bent on denying the truth pursue falsehood, whereas they who have attained to faith pursue [but] the truth [that flows] from their Sustainer. In this way does God set forth unto man the parables of their true state.

അതെന്തെന്നാൽ, സത്യത്തെ നിഷേധിച്ചവർ അസത്യത്തെ പിൻപറ്റി, എന്നാൽ വിശ്വസിച്ചവരാകട്ടെ, തങ്ങളുടെ നാഥനിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പരമമായ സത്യത്തെ പിന്തുടർന്നു. ഇപ്രകാരം ദൈവം മനുഷ്യർക്കായി അവരുടെ യഥാർത്ഥ അവസ്ഥകളെ ഉപമകളിലൂടെ വിശദീകരിച്ചു കൊടുക്കുന്നു.

فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرْبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلْوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّۢا بَعْدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَآءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَلَٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَا۟ بَعْضَكُم بِبَعْضٍۢ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن يُضِلَّ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ﴿٤﴾

NOW WHEN you meet [in war] those who are bent on denying the truth, smite their necks until you overcome them fully, and then tighten their bonds; but thereafter [set them free,] either by an act of grace or against ransom, so that the burden of war may be lifted: thus [shall it be]. And [know that] had God so willed, He could indeed punish them [Himself]; but [He wills you to struggle] so as to test you [all] by means of one another. And as for those who are slain in God's cause, never will He let their deeds go to waste:

ആകയാൽ, [രണഭൂമിയിൽ] സത്യനിഷേധികളുമായി നിങ്ങൾ ഏറ്റുമുട്ടുമ്പോൾ അവരുടെ കഴുത്തുകളിൽ വെട്ടുവിൻ. ഒടുവിൽ അവരെ നിങ്ങൾ പൂർണ്ണമായി കീഴ്പ്പെടുത്തുമ്പോൾ ബന്ധനങ്ങൾ ദൃഢമാക്കുക; അതിനുശേഷം, യുദ്ധത്തിന്റെ കെടുതികൾ അവസാനിക്കും വരെ ഒന്നുകിൽ കാരുണ്യത്താൽ അവരെ നിരുപാധികം മോചിപ്പിക്കുക, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ മോചനദ്രവ്യം സ്വീകരിച്ച് വിട്ടയക്കുക. അപ്രകാരമത്രെ [കല്പന]. ദൈവം ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ അവരെ സ്വയം തന്നെ ശിക്ഷിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങളിൽ ചിലരെ മറ്റുചിലരിലൂടെ പരീക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിനാണ് [അവൻ ഇപ്രകാരം നിശ്ചയിച്ചത്]. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മാർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ രക്തസാക്ഷികളായവരാകട്ടെ, അവരുടെ കർമ്മങ്ങളെ അവൻ ഒരിക്കലും നിഷ്ഫലമാക്കുകയില്ല.

سَيَهْدِيهِمْ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَهُمْ﴿٥﴾

He will guide them [in the hereafter as well], and will set their hearts at rest,

അവന്‍ അവരെ നേര്‍വഴിയിലാക്കുകയും അവരുടെ അവസ്ഥ നന്നാക്കിത്തീര്‍ക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ عَرَّفَهَا لَهُمْ﴿٦﴾

and will admit them to the paradise which He has promised them.

അവന്‍ അവരെ സ്വര്‍ഗത്തില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും. അവര്‍ക്കത് അവന്‍ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തിക്കൊടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ട്‌.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ﴿٧﴾

O you who have attained to faith! If you help [the cause of] God, He will help You, and will make firm your steps;

സത്യവിശ്വാസികളേ, നിങ്ങള്‍ ദൈവത്തെ സഹായിക്കുന്ന പക്ഷം അവന്‍ നിങ്ങളെ സഹായിക്കുകയും നിങ്ങളുടെ പാദങ്ങള്‍ ഉറപ്പിച്ചുനിര്‍ത്തുകയും ചെയ്യും.

وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَعْسًۭا لَّهُمْ وَأَضَلَّ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ﴿٨﴾

but as for those who are bent on denying the truth, ill fortune awaits them, since He will let all their [good] deeds go to waste:

സത്യനിഷേധികളാരോ അവര്‍ക്ക് നാശം! അവന്‍ അവരുടെ കര്‍മ്മങ്ങളെ പാഴാക്കിക്കളയുകയും ചെയ്യും.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَٰلَهُمْ﴿٩﴾

this, because they hate [the very thought of] what God has bestowed from on high - and thus He causes all their deeds to come to nought!

അത്‌, ദൈവം അവതരിപ്പിച്ചതിനെ അവര്‍ വെറുത്തതുകൊണ്ടാണ്‌. തന്മൂലം അവന്‍ അവരുടെ കര്‍മ്മങ്ങളെ നിഷ്ഫലമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു

۞ أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَلِلْكَٰفِرِينَ أَمْثَٰلُهَا﴿١٠﴾

Have they, then, never journeyed about the earth and beheld what happened in the end to those [wilful sinners] who lived before their time? God destroyed them utterly: and the like thereof awaits all who deny the truth.

ഇവര്‍ ഭൂമിയിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടില്ലേ? എങ്കില്‍ തങ്ങളുടെ മുന്‍ഗാമികളുടെ പര്യവസാനം എങ്ങനെയായിരുന്നു എന്ന് ഇവര്‍ക്ക് കാണാമായിരുന്നു. ദൈവം അവരെ തകര്‍ത്തുകളഞ്ഞു. ഈ സത്യനിഷേധികള്‍ക്കുമുള്ളത് അതുപോലെയുള്ള ശിക്ഷകള്‍ തന്നെയാകുന്നു.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوْلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَأَنَّ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَا مَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ﴿١١﴾

This, because God is the Protector of all who have attained to faith, whereas they who deny the truth have no protector.

അത്‌, ദൈവം വിശ്വാസികളുടെ സംരക്ഷകനായതുകൊണ്ടാണ്‌. സത്യനിഷേധികള്‍ക്കാകട്ടെ ഒരു സംരക്ഷകനുമില്ല.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدْخِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ جَنَّٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَتَمَتَّعُونَ وَيَأْكُلُونَ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمُ وَٱلنَّارُ مَثْوًۭى لَّهُمْ﴿١٢﴾

Verily, God will admit all who attain to faith and do righteous deeds into gardens through which running waters flow, whereas they who are bent on denying the truth shall have - even though they may enjoy their life [in this world] and eat as cattle eat - the fire [of the hereafter] for their abode.

തീര്‍ച്ചയായും വിശ്വസിക്കുകയും സല്‍കര്‍മ്മങ്ങള്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തവരെ താഴ്ഭാഗത്തു കൂടി അരുവികളൊഴുകുന്ന സ്വര്‍ഗത്തോപ്പുകളില്‍ ദൈവം പ്രവേശിപ്പിക്കുന്നതാണ്‌. സത്യനിഷേധികള്‍ സുഖമനുഭവിക്കുകയും കന്നുകാലികള്‍ തിന്നുന്നത് പോലെ തിന്നുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. നരകാഗ്നിയാണ് അവരുടെ പാര്‍പ്പിടം.

وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ هِىَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةًۭ مِّن قَرْيَتِكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَتْكَ أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمْ﴿١٣﴾

And how many a community of greater power than this thy community which has driven thee out, [O Muhammad,) have We destroyed, with none to succour them!

പ്രവാചകരേ, താങ്കളെ പുറത്താക്കിയ ഈ സ്വന്തം നാട്ടുകാരെക്കാള്‍ പ്രബലന്മാരായിരുന്ന എത്രയോ രാജ്യക്കാരെനാം നശിപ്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌. അപ്പോള്‍ അവര്‍ക്കൊരു സഹായിയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.

أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍۢ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ كَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُم﴿١٤﴾

CAN, THEN, he who takes his stand on a clear evidence from his Sustainer be likened unto one to whom the evil of his own doings [always] seems goodly, and unto such as would follow but their own lusts?

തന്റെ രക്ഷിതാവിങ്കൽ നിന്നുള്ള വ്യക്തമായ തെളിവിനെ അവലംബിക്കുന്നവൻ, തന്റെ ദുഷ് പ്രവൃത്തികൾ ഭംഗിയായി തോന്നിക്കപ്പെടുകയും തങ്ങളുടെ തന്നിഷ്ടങ്ങളെ പിൻപറ്റുകയും ചെയ്തവനെപ്പോലെയാണോ?

مَّثَلُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى وُعِدَ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَآ أَنْهَٰرٌۭ مِّن مَّآءٍ غَيْرِ ءَاسِنٍۢ وَأَنْهَٰرٌۭ مِّن لَّبَنٍۢ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُۥ وَأَنْهَٰرٌۭ مِّنْ خَمْرٍۢ لَّذَّةٍۢ لِّلشَّٰرِبِينَ وَأَنْهَٰرٌۭ مِّنْ عَسَلٍۢ مُّصَفًّۭى ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَٰلِدٌۭ فِى ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَآءً حَمِيمًۭا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَآءَهُمْ﴿١٥﴾

[And can] the parable of the paradise which the God-conscious are promised - [a paradise] wherein there are rivers of water which time does not corrupt, and rivers of milk the taste whereof never alters, and rivers of wine delightful to those who drink it, and rivers of honey of all impurity cleansed, and the enjoyment of all the fruits [of their good deeds] and of forgiveness from their Sustainer -: can this [parable of paradise] be likened unto [the parable of the recompense of] such as are to abide in the fire and be given waters of burning despair to drink, so that it will tear their bowels asunder?

സൂക്ഷ്മതയുള്ളവർക്ക് വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ള സ്വർഗത്തിന്റെ അവസ്ഥ എങ്ങനെയെന്നാൽ; അതിൽ കലർപ്പില്ലാത്ത തെളിനീരിന്റെ അരുവികളുണ്ട്. രുചിഭേദം വരാത്ത പാലിന്റെ പുഴകളും, കുടിക്കുന്നവർക്ക് ആസ്വാദ്യമായ മദ്യത്തിന്റെ നദികളും, നിർമലമായ തേനരുവികളുമുണ്ട്. അവർക്കതിൽ എല്ലാതരം കായ്കനികളുമുണ്ട്; തങ്ങളുടെ രക്ഷിതാവിങ്കൽ നിന്നുള്ള പാപമോചനവുമുണ്ട്. (ഈ സ്വർഗവാസികളുടെ അവസ്ഥ) നരകത്തിൽ നിത്യവാസിയായിരിക്കുകയും, തിളച്ചു മറിയുന്ന വെള്ളം കുടിക്കാൻ നൽകപ്പെട്ടിട്ട് അത് തങ്ങളുടെ കുടലുകളെ കഷ്ണങ്ങളാക്കിക്കളയുകയും ചെയ്തവനെപ്പോലെയാണോ?

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا خَرَجُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًا ۚ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ﴿١٦﴾

Now among those [hapless sinners] are such as [pretend to] listen to thee, [O Muhammad,] and then, as soon as they leave thy presence, speak [with scorn] unto those who have understood [thy message]: "What is it that he has said just now?" It is such as these whose hearts God has sealed because they [always] followed but their own lusts -

പ്രവാചകരേ, താങ്കളുടെ വാക്ക് ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു കേൾക്കുന്ന ചിലരും അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലുണ്ട്. എന്നാൽ താങ്കളുടെ അടുക്കൽ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുപോയാൽ, അറിവ് നൽകപ്പെട്ടവരോട് അവർ (പരിഹാസത്തോടെ) ചോദിക്കും: "ഇയാൾ ഇപ്പോഴെന്താണ് പറഞ്ഞത്?" അങ്ങനെയുള്ളവരുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളിൻമേലാണ് ദൈവം മുദ്രവെച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്. അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ തന്നിഷ്ടങ്ങളെ പിൻപറ്റുകയുമാണ് ചെയ്തത്.

وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ زَادَهُمْ هُدًۭى وَءَاتَىٰهُمْ تَقْوَىٰهُمْ﴿١٧﴾

just as for those who are [willing to be] guided, He increases their [ability to follow His] guidance and causes them to grow in God-consciousness.

സന്മാർഗം സ്വീകരിച്ചവരാകട്ടെ, ദൈവം അവർക്ക് കൂടുതൽ സന്മാർഗം നൽകുകയും, അവർക്ക് വേണ്ടതായ സൂക്ഷ്മത അവർക്ക് പ്രധാനം ചെയ്യുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ്.

فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةًۭ ۖ فَقَدْ جَآءَ أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمْ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ ذِكْرَىٰهُمْ﴿١٨﴾

Are, then, they [whose hearts are sealed] waiting for the Last Hour [waiting] that it come upon them of a sudden? But it has already been foretold! And what will their remembrance [of their past sins] avail them, once it has come upon them?

ഇനി ആ അന്ത്യസമയം അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായി തങ്ങളിലേക്ക് വന്നുഭവിക്കുന്നതല്ലാതെ മറ്റെന്തെങ്കിലും അവർ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ടോ? എന്നാൽ അതിന്റെ അടയാളങ്ങൾ ഇതിനകം തന്നെ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. അത് അവർക്ക് വന്നുഭവിക്കുമ്പോൾ അവരുടെ പശ്ചാത്താപം അവർക്ക് എങ്ങനെ പ്രയോജനപ്പെടാനാണ്?

فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ﴿١٩﴾

Know, then, [O man,] that there is no deity save God, and [while there is yet time,] ask forgiveness for thy sins and for [the sins of] all other believing men and women: for God knows all your comings and goings as well as your abiding [at rest].

ആകയാൽ, അല്ലാഹുവല്ലാതെ യാതൊരു ആരാധ്യനുമില്ല എന്ന് നീ വ്യക്തമായി അറിയുക. നിന്റെ പാപങ്ങൾക്കും സത്യവിശ്വാസികളായ പുരുഷന്മാർക്കും സ്ത്രീകൾക്കും വേണ്ടി നീ പാപമോചനം തേടുകയും ചെയ്യുക. നിങ്ങളുടെ ചലനങ്ങളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ വിശ്രമസ്ഥലങ്ങളെയും പറ്റി ദൈവം കൃത്യമായി അറിയുന്നുണ്ട്‌.

وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَتْ سُورَةٌۭ ۖ فَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌۭ مُّحْكَمَةٌۭ وَذُكِرَ فِيهَا ٱلْقِتَالُ ۙ رَأَيْتَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ نَظَرَ ٱلْمَغْشِىِّ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ فَأَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ﴿٢٠﴾

NOW THOSE who have attained to faith say, "Would that a revelation [allowing us to fight] were bestowed from on high!" But now that a revelation clear in and by itself, mentioning war, has been bestowed from on high, thou canst see those in whose hearts is disease looking at thee, [O Muhammad,] with the look of one who is about to faint for fear of death! And yet, far better for them would be

സത്യവിശ്വാസികൾ പറയുന്നു: "(യുദ്ധാനുമതി നൽകുന്ന) ഒരു അദ്ധ്യായം അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ എത്ര നന്നായിരുന്നു!" എന്നാൽ വ്യക്തമായ നിർദേശങ്ങളുള്ളതും യുദ്ധത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് പരാമർശിക്കുന്നതുമായ ഒരു അദ്ധ്യായം അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടപ്പോഴാകട്ടെ, ഹൃദയങ്ങളിൽ രോഗമുള്ളവർ മരണഭയത്താൽ ബോധക്ഷയം ബാധിച്ചവനെപ്പോലെ നിന്നെ നോക്കുന്നതായി നിനക്ക് കാണാം. എന്നാൽ അവർക്ക് കൂടുതൽ ഉചിതമായിട്ടുള്ളത്—
