Surah Al-Qalam — The Pen

نٓ ۚ وَٱلْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ﴿١﴾

Nun. CONSIDER the pen, and all that they write [therewith]!

നൂൻ. പേനയെയും അവർ എഴുതിയുണ്ടാക്കുന്നതിനെയും കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തിക്കുക!

مَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍۢ﴿٢﴾

Thou art not, by thy Sustainer's grace, a madman!

നിന്റെ നാഥന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹത്താൽ നീ ഒരു ഭ്രാന്തനല്ല!

وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍۢ﴿٣﴾

And, verily, thine shall be a reward neverending

തീർച്ചയായും നിനക്ക് ഒരിക്കലും തീരാത്ത മഹത്തായ പ്രതിഫലമുണ്ട്.

وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍۢ﴿٤﴾

for, behold, thou keepest indeed to a sublime way of life;

ഇതാ, നിശ്ചയം നീ മഹത്തായ സ്വഭാവശ്രേഷ്ഠതയിലാകുന്നു.

فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ﴿٥﴾

and [one day] thou shalt see, and they [who now deride thee] shall see,

അതിനാൽ (ഒരു നാൾ) നീ കാണുക തന്നെ ചെയ്യും, (ഇന്ന് നിന്നെ പരിഹസിക്കുന്ന) അവരും കാണും;

بِأَييِّكُمُ ٱلْمَفْتُونُ﴿٦﴾

which of you was bereft of reason.

നിങ്ങളിൽ ആരാണ് ബുദ്ധിഭ്രമം സംഭവിച്ചവൻ എന്ന്.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ﴿٧﴾

Verily, thy Sustainer alone is fully aware as to who has strayed from His path, Just as He alone is fully aware of those who have found the right way.

നിശ്ചയമായും, തന്റെ മാർഗത്തിൽ നിന്ന് തെറ്റിപ്പോയവർ ആരാണെന്ന് നിന്റെ നാഥന് കൃത്യമായി അറിയാം; നേർവഴി കണ്ടെത്തിയവർ ആരാണെന്ന് നന്നായി അറിയുന്നവനും അവൻ തന്നെയാണ്.

فَلَا تُطِعِ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ﴿٨﴾

Hence, defer not to [the likes and dislikes of] those who give the lie to the truth:

അതിനാൽ, സത്യത്തെ നിഷേധിച്ചു തള്ളുന്ന ആ ആളുകളുടെ (ഇഷ്ടാനിഷ്ടങ്ങൾക്ക്) നീ വഴങ്ങിക്കൊടുക്കരുത്.

وَدُّوا۟ لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ﴿٩﴾

they would like thee to be soft [with them], so that they might be soft [with thee].

നീ അവരോട് അൽപം വിട്ടുവീഴ്ച ചെയ്യണമെന്നാണ് അവർ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്, എങ്കിൽ അവർക്ക് നിന്നോടും വിട്ടുവീഴ്ച ചെയ്യാമല്ലോ.

وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍۢ مَّهِينٍ﴿١٠﴾

Furthermore, defer not to the contemptible swearer of oaths,

അതുമാത്രമല്ല, നിന്ദ്യനായ ശപഥക്കാരന് നീ വഴങ്ങരുത്;

هَمَّازٍۢ مَّشَّآءٍۭ بِنَمِيمٍۢ﴿١١﴾

[or to] the slanderer that goes about with defaming tales,

പരദൂഷണം പറഞ്ഞുനടക്കുന്ന അപവാദക്കാരനും,

مَّنَّاعٍۢ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ﴿١٢﴾

[or] the withholder of good, [or] the sinful aggressor,

നന്മയെ വിലക്കുന്നവനും, അതിക്രമകാരിയും പാപിയുമായവനും,

عُتُلٍّۭ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ﴿١٣﴾

[or] one who is cruel, by greed possessed, and, in addition to all this, utterly useless [to his fellow-men].

ക്രൂരനും, അങ്ങേയറ്റം അത്യാർത്തിയുമായവനും, ഇതിനെല്ലാം പുറമെ (തന്റെ സഹജീവികൾക്ക്) പൂർണ്ണമായും പ്രയോജനശൂന്യനുമായവനും നീ വഴങ്ങരുത്.

أَن كَانَ ذَا مَالٍۢ وَبَنِينَ﴿١٤﴾

Is it because he is possessed of worldly goods and children

തനിക്ക് ലൗകിക സമ്പത്തും മക്കളും ഉണ്ടെന്ന കാരണത്താലാണോ?

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ﴿١٥﴾

that, whenever Our messages are conveyed to him, such a one says, "Fables of ancient times"?

നമ്മുടെ സന്ദേശങ്ങൾ അവന് ഓതിക്കേൾപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുമ്പോഴെല്ലാം അവൻ പറയുന്നു: "ഇവ പൂർവ്വികരുടെ കെട്ടുകഥകൾ മാത്രം!"

سَنَسِمُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْخُرْطُومِ﴿١٦﴾

[For this] We shall brand him with indelible disgrace!

(ഇതിന് പകരമായി) അവന്റെ മൂക്കിന്മേൽ മാറ്റാൻ കഴിയാത്ത വലിപ്പമുള്ളൊരു അടയാളം (ശാശ്വതമായ അപമാനം) നാം ചാർത്തുന്നതാണ്!

إِنَّا بَلَوْنَٰهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا۟ لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ﴿١٧﴾

[As for such sinners,] behold, We [but] try them as We tried the owners of a certain garden who vowed that they would surely harvest its fruit on the morrow,

(അത്തരം പാപികളെ)നാം പരീക്ഷിക്കുക തന്നെ ചെയ്യുന്നു; നാളെ പ്രഭാതത്തിൽ തങ്ങളുടെ തോട്ടത്തിലെ ഫലങ്ങൾ തീർച്ചയായും കൊയ്തെടുക്കുമെന്ന് ശപഥം ചെയ്ത ആ ഒരു തോട്ടത്തിന്റെ ഉടമകളെ നാം പരീക്ഷിച്ചതുപോലെ.

وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ﴿١٨﴾

and made no allowance [for the will of God]:

(അങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ) അവർ ദൈവഹിതത്തിന് യാതൊരു സാദ്ധ്യതയും ബാക്കിവെച്ചതുമില്ല:

فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ﴿١٩﴾

whereupon a visitation for thy Sustainer came upon that [garden] while they were asleep,

അങ്ങനെ അവർ ഉറങ്ങിക്കിടക്കുകയായിരുന്ന സമയത്ത് നിന്റെ നാഥങ്കൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഒരു ശിക്ഷ ആ (തോട്ടത്തിന്) മേൽ വന്നു പതിച്ചു.

فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَٱلصَّرِيمِ﴿٢٠﴾

so that by the morrow it became barren and bleak.

തന്മൂലം നേരം പുലർന്നപ്പോഴേക്കും അത് വിളവറ്റുപോയതും ശൂന്യവുമായ ഒന്നായിത്തീർന്നു.
