Surah Al-Ma'Arij — The Ways Of Ascent

سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍۢ وَاقِعٍۢ﴿١﴾

ONE who is minded to ask might ask about the suffering which [in the hereafter] is bound to befall

ചോദിക്കുന്ന ഒരുവൻ, വരാനിരിക്കുന്ന അനിവാര്യമായ ശിക്ഷയെക്കുറിച്ച് ചോദിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി;

لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌۭ﴿٢﴾

those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off,

സത്യനിഷേധികൾക്ക് മേൽ വരാനിരിക്കുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച്. അതിനെ തടുക്കാൻ ആർക്കും സാധ്യമല്ല,

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ﴿٣﴾

[since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent:

എന്തെന്നാൽ അത് വരുന്നത് ഉന്നതമായ പദവികളുള്ളവനായ ദൈവത്തിൽ നിന്നാകുന്നു:

تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍۢ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍۢ﴿٤﴾

all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years.

മാലാഖമാരും മനുഷ്യന് നൽകപ്പെട്ട എല്ലാ ദിവ്യപ്രചോദനവും അവങ്കലേക്ക് (ദിനംപ്രതി) കയറിപ്പോകുന്നു; അമ്പതിനായിരം വർഷത്തെ ദൈർഘ്യമുള്ള ഒരു ദിനത്തിലാണത്.

فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًۭا جَمِيلًا﴿٥﴾

Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience:

ആകയാൽ, (അല്ലയോ വിശ്വാസീ), ഏതൊരു പ്രതികൂല സാഹചര്യങ്ങളെയും നീ നന്നായി ക്ഷമിക്കുക-- ഭംഗിയായ ക്ഷമ.

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًۭا﴿٦﴾

behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away

തീർച്ചയായും, മനുഷ്യർ ആ (വിചാരണ) നാളിനെ വിദൂരമായ ഒന്നായി കാണുന്നു;

وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًۭا﴿٧﴾

but, We see it as near!

എന്നാൽ, നാം അതിനെ വളരെ അടുത്തായി കാണുന്നു!

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ﴿٨﴾

[It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead,

ആകാശം ഉരുകിയ ഈയം പോലെയായിത്തീരുന്ന ഒരു ദിവസത്തിലായിരിക്കും (അത് സംഭവിക്കുക),

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ﴿٩﴾

and the mountains will be like tufts of wool,

പർവ്വതങ്ങൾ കടഞ്ഞെടുത്ത കമ്പിളിത്തുണ്ടുകൾ പോലെയായിത്തീരും.

وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًۭا﴿١٠﴾

and [when] no friend will ask about his friend,

അന്ന് ഒരു ആത്മമിത്രവും തന്റെ മിത്രത്തെ അന്വേഷിക്കുന്നതല്ല.

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ ٱلْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِى مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍۭ بِبَنِيهِ﴿١١﴾

though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children,

അവർ പരസ്പരം കാണത്തക്ക രീതിയിലായിരുന്നാൽ പോലും. പാപത്തിൽ മുഴുകിയ ഓരോരുത്തരും അന്ന് തന്റെ മക്കളെ പകരമായി നൽകിക്കൊണ്ട് ആ ശിക്ഷയിൽ നിന്ന് രക്ഷപ്പെടാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കും,

وَصَٰحِبَتِهِۦ وَأَخِيهِ﴿١٢﴾

and of his spouse, and of his brother,

തന്റെ പങ്കാളിയെയും, തന്റെ സഹോദരനെയും,

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ ٱلَّتِى تُـْٔوِيهِ﴿١٣﴾

and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him,

തനിക്ക് അഭയം നൽകിയിരുന്ന തന്റെ എല്ലാ ബന്ധുമിത്രാദികളെയും,

وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًۭا ثُمَّ يُنجِيهِ﴿١٤﴾

and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself.

ഭൂമിയിലുള്ള മറ്റാരെയൊക്കെയാണോ അവരെയെയെല്ലാം മുഴുവനായും നൽകി — തനിക്ക് മാത്രം രക്ഷപ്പെടാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞിരുന്നെങ്കിൽ എന്ന് അവൻ കൊതിക്കും.

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ﴿١٥﴾

But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame,

എന്നാൽ അങ്ങനെയല്ല! തീർച്ചയായും, അവരെ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നത് ആളിപ്പടരുന്ന നരകാഗ്നിയാകുന്നു,

نَزَّاعَةًۭ لِّلشَّوَىٰ﴿١٦﴾

tearing away his skin!

അത് തൊലി ഉരിഞ്ഞു കളയുന്നതാണ്!

تَدْعُوا۟ مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ﴿١٧﴾

It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right], and turn away [from the truth],

(ശരിയായ മാർഗ്ഗത്തോട്) പുറംതിരിഞ്ഞു കളയുകയും (സത്യത്തിൽ നിന്ന്) ഓടിയകലുകയും ചെയ്തവരെയെല്ലാം അത് തന്റെ അടുക്കലേക്ക് വിളിക്കും,

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰٓ﴿١٨﴾

and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men].

അതുപോലെ സമ്പത്ത് കുന്നുകൂട്ടുകയും, പിന്നീട് അത് തന്റെ (സഹജീവികൾക്ക് നൽകാതെ) പിടിച്ചുവെക്കുകയും ചെയ്തവരെയും.

۞ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا﴿١٩﴾

VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition.

തീർച്ചയായും മനുഷ്യൻ സൃഷ്ടിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളത് അക്ഷമനും ചഞ്ചലമനസ്കനുമായിട്ടാകുന്നു.

إِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ جَزُوعًۭا﴿٢٠﴾

[As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity;

ആപത്തണയുമ്പോള്‍ അവന്‍ വെപ്രാളംകൊള്ളുന്നു.;
