Surah Ash-Shams — The Sun

وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا﴿١﴾

CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness,

സൂര്യനെയും അതിന്റെ ഉജ്ജ്വലപ്രഭയെയും കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തിക്കുക.

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا﴿٢﴾

and the moon as it reflects the sun!

സൂര്യനെ പിന്തുടർന്നു വരുന്ന ചന്ദ്രനെയും കുറിച്ചും,

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا﴿٣﴾

Consider the day as it reveals the world,

ലോകത്തെ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്ന പകലിനെക്കുറിച്ചും,

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا﴿٤﴾

and the night as it veils it darkly!

അതിനെ ഇരുളാൽ മൂടുമ്പോൾ രാത്രിയെക്കുറിച്ചും!

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا﴿٥﴾

Consider the sky and its wondrous make,

ആകാശത്തെയും അതിന്റെ അത്ഭുതകരമായ നിർമ്മിതിയെയും കുറിച്ചും,

وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا﴿٦﴾

and the earth and all its expanse!

ഭൂമിയെയും അതിനെ വിസ്തൃതമാക്കിയ രീതിയെയും കുറിച്ചും!

وَنَفْسٍۢ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا﴿٧﴾

Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be,

മനുഷ്യാത്മാവിനെക്കുറിച്ചും, അതിനെ ക്രമപ്പെടുത്തിയ രീതിയെക്കുറിച്ചും ചിന്തിക്കുക.

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا﴿٨﴾

and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God!

എന്നിട്ട് അതിന് അതിന്റെ ധര്‍മാധര്‍മ ബോധത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ദൈവഭയത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ബോധനം നൽകിയതിനെക്കുറിച്ചും ചിന്തിക്കുക!

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا﴿٩﴾

To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity,

ഈ (ആത്മാവിനെ) സംസ്‌കരിച്ചവന്‍ തീർച്ചയായും സൗഭാഗ്യകരമായ അവസ്ഥയിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരും,

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا﴿١٠﴾

and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness].

അതിനെ (ഇരുളിൽ) കുഴിച്ചുമൂടുന്നവൻ യഥാർത്ഥത്തിൽ നഷ്ടം പറ്റിയവനുമാകുന്നു.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ﴿١١﴾

TO [THIS] TRUTH gave the lie, in their overweening arrogance, [the tribe of] Thamud,

തങ്ങളുടെ അതിരുകടന്ന അഹങ്കാരത്താൽ ഥമൂദ് (ഗോത്രം) (ഈ) സത്യത്തെ തള്ളിപ്പറഞ്ഞു,

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا﴿١٢﴾

when that most hapless wretch from among them rushed forward [to commit his evil deed],

അവരിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഏറ്റവും ദുഷ്ടനായവൻ (അക്രമത്തിന്) മുൻപോട്ട് ചാടിയപ്പോൾ,

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَٰهَا﴿١٣﴾

although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!"

ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദൂതൻ അവരോട് പറഞ്ഞു: "ഇത് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെണ്ണൊട്ടകമാണ്; (അതിനാൽ) അവൾക്ക് വെള്ളം കുടിക്കാൻ അനുവദിക്കുക, (അതിന് ദോഷമൊന്നും വരുത്തരുത്).

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا﴿١٤﴾

But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike:

എന്നാൽ അവർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ നിഷേധിക്കുകയും അതിനെ അറുത്തുകളയുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതിനാൽ അവരുടെ നാഥൻ അവരുടെ പാപം കാരണം അവരുടെ മേൽ സർവ്വനാശം വരുത്തുകയും, അതിൽ അവരെ ഏവരെയും ഒരുപോലെ നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَٰهَا﴿١٥﴾

for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them.

കാരണം, അവരിൽ ആരും തന്നെ (തങ്ങൾക്ക്) വരാനിരിക്കുന്ന പരിണതഫലത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് ഒട്ടും ഭയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നില്ല.
